As of today, the Raptor course is closed for overseed. Grayhawk Golf Club's agronomy team describes fall overseed as chopping the summer grass "down to the dirt" and reseeding with winter grass. On the published 2026 schedule, Raptor is closed for that work from October 12 through October 29. Talon finished its own two weeks of the same work yesterday.
The Grayhawk Community Association's fall calendar runs from mid-October to mid-December, and almost none of it happens on either course. The outdoor events are on two greenbelts. The indoor ones are clustered at the association office on Thompson Peak Parkway. The golf club appears once, on December 8, when the Santa Party moves into Fairway House. So the two championship courses spend October in rotation for maintenance, and the community's season happens a few blocks away from them.
In 2026, Each Course Closes Twice, Never at the Same Time
Overseed is the second of two maintenance closures on Grayhawk's 2026 schedule, and the club put the two courses on opposite timing for both. Grayhawk Golf Club's maintenance page lists the full 2026 sequence:
| Work | Course | Closed |
|---|---|---|
| Aeration | Raptor | July 6 – July 26, 2026 |
| Aeration | Talon | July 27 – August 16, 2026 |
| Overseed | Talon | September 28 – October 11, 2026 |
| Overseed | Raptor | October 12 – October 29, 2026 |
The closures never overlap, so one course is open on every day of the schedule. Within each pair, the second course closes the day after the first one's closure ends. Raptor's aeration ran through July 26 and Talon's started July 27. Talon's overseed closure ran through October 11 and Raptor's started October 12. The club also says staff will tell golfers when a cart-path-only policy is in effect.
The work is overseen by Director of Agronomy Ernie Pock, whom the club describes as a third-generation Arizona superintendent. His team also prepared the courses for the NCAA Men's and Women's Golf Championships, which Grayhawk hosted from 2021 to 2023.
For Now, the Patio Views Are Reversed
The club's restaurants are tied to the courses they overlook, so the rotation shows up at dinner.
Isabella's Kitchen looks out over Talon, which just reopened. Grayhawk's dining page describes a dining room and a patio above the course, with handmade pizza, sandwiches, fish, salads and fresh pasta made daily by Chef Sammy, plus a happy hour every afternoon. It's listed as open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 8623 E. Thompson Peak Parkway, with reservations and takeout. The club doesn't post a time for happy hour, so a phone call to (480) 502-3100 is the way to find out.
Quill Creek Restaurant & Grill faces the McDowell Mountains across Raptor, which will be reseeding through the end of the month. The patio is set up for post-round lunches and sunsets. Inside, the Grill's walls carry the club's history of competitive events and tournaments. Reservations go through OpenTable from the club's dining page. The club doesn't publish Quill Creek's hours online.
The Morning Joint, known around the club as Mojo, opens earliest. Breakfast runs from 6 to 11 a.m. and lunch until 1 p.m. Along with coffee, there's a produce-focused sibling menu called Moju and a list of "Boozie Smoothies."
Each course also has its own snack bar. Tom's Thumb is in the main clubhouse, on the walk from the 9th hole to No. 10. The Roof is on the Talon side, next to Isabella's Kitchen and the 10th tee. Both serve burgers, sandwiches, wraps and brats.
Until October 29, sunset from the Isabella's patio looks over a course that's back in play, and the view from Quill Creek is a course closed for overseed.
The Outdoor Season Is on Two Greenbelts
When the association plans an outdoor event this fall, it books one of two greenbelts. Neither is a fairway. Three events in October and November use them:
- Harvest at the Hawk, Saturday, October 24, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the greenbelt at N. 73rd Way and E. Whistling Wind Way. The listing promises a corn maze, games, crafts, pumpkins and food. It costs $10 per child, which covers lunch and a pumpkin, and registration closes October 21. Costumes are encouraged.
- Concert in the Park, Friday, November 13, 5 to 7 p.m., on the greenbelt at 78th Place and 78th Way. The association describes it as live music outdoors with neighbors.
- Chamber of Commerce Home and Health Show at Grayhawk, Saturday, November 21, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on the same 78th Place greenbelt. It's free and brings in local businesses, home improvement experts and wellness resources.
The 78th Place greenbelt hosts two events eight days apart, first an evening concert and then a Saturday-morning expo. In late November, that lawn gets more use than either golf course.
The Indoor Half Is Clustered on Thompson Peak Parkway
Before December, every event that isn't on a greenbelt is held at the association office, 7940 E. Thompson Peak Parkway, or in the Talon Room, or starts from one of them. That includes a volunteer morning that ends up out on the trails.
The first is the Murder Mystery on Wednesday, October 14, 5 to 7:30 p.m., in Suite 102. It's wedding-themed, with actors, snacks and a room full of suspects for $10 a person. The association's calendar lists registration as closing October 12, which is today.
The Adopt-A-Road Clean Up on Saturday, October 31, runs 8 to 10 a.m. Volunteers meet at the GCA office and then clean the trails along Hayden Road north of Thompson Peak Parkway. It ends early enough to leave Halloween afternoon open.
November fills in from there:
- Bunco, Bites and Big Wins, Thursday, November 5, 6 to 8 p.m., at the GCA office. The roster had 16 of 20 spots filled when this calendar was checked.
- A Centerpiece for the Season, Tuesday, November 17, 5:30 to 7 p.m., in the Talon Room. You build a table centerpiece to take home for Thanksgiving or the holidays, and 18 of 20 spots were taken.
- Fire Safety Secrets Lunch and Learn, Thursday, November 19, 11 a.m. to noon, in Suite 102. It's free and covers basic fire prevention and safety for homeowners.
The Hanukkah Party on Thursday, December 10, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., also takes place in the Talon Room. The association invites all residents to a pre-Hanukkah celebration.
Between Murder Mystery night and the Hanukkah party, the association has scheduled six events at the office, in the Talon Room or starting from them, and three on the greenbelts. Over the same eight weeks, the courses go through their last closure and their first weeks back in full play.
December Is When the Calendar Moves to Restaurants and the Club
In early December, the calendar moves away from the greenbelts and the office for the first time.
On Thursday, December 3, Jingle and Mingle opens the holiday season at Jalapeño Inferno, 7605 E. Pinnacle Peak Road, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. When this was checked, 7 of 25 spots were taken.
Five days later comes the Santa Party on Tuesday, December 8, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Fairway House at Grayhawk Golf Club, 8362 E. Thompson Peak Parkway. The club describes Fairway House as an indoor-outdoor event venue with 6,000 square feet for groups of 20 to 300, a patio and event lawn with golf and mountain views, and its own kitchen, chef and event staff.
The Isabella's Kitchen patio can also hold private parties of up to 200 guests, with Grayhawk's catering team handling the details. If your neighborhood group outgrows a greenbelt lawn this holiday season, that's another option that overlooks Talon.
Living here, I follow the club and association calendars as closely as I follow the market, because they set the rhythm of the season. If you're thinking about when your own Grayhawk home should hit the market, it helps to know the weeks when the courses look their best and the neighborhood is busiest. I'm glad to go over that timing with you. Desert Living Properties can start with a valuation that takes the season into account. Get Your Home Valuation.
